About Michael

Never afraid to be different and having an inbuilt ability to think outside of his Irish upbringing, Michael Sheehan looked to the US for his grounding in all things politics.

While emigrating immediately after his Leaving Certificate to New York in 1991, he found work, while simultaneously settling down to achieve a degree in political science from the State University of New York.

While there, and working for a US Member of Congress, politics became his passion and driving force to achieve more for the society in which he grew up.

He returned to Ireland in 1997. He studied for and achieved a Masters in Economics from UCD, while all the time honing his skills in politics.

As a result, Michael duly set his sights on being elected to the Town Council of New Ross, his home town. He was successfully elected to New Ross Town Council in 1999 followed by election to Wexford County Council in 2009, achieving so by topping the poll.

He brings twenty years’ experience of local community development to the political table. Not a man of empty promises rather a man with plans to deliver, Michael, who is an Outreach teacher, is determined and accessible for all living in the county.

Since day one, the well-being of the people of New Ross and South Co. Wexford have been his priority. He has a proven track record of working on, delivering and building community projects. Whether a voice for the young, the elderly or those in need, he has been at the forefront of engaging and delivering for all – listening to ensure their voices are heard and respected.

Michael believes the improved access to quality education and early childcare services, the creation of sustainable jobs, the speedy provision of social housing and better health services across the board are essential.

His campaign motto “The Same Won’t Do” and Fianna Fáil’s belief in truly creating “An Ireland for All” drives his ambition to be the hardworking TD that South Wexford so badly needs now, not in the future.

Michael is the youngest of seven children and is married to Edward. His family are among his large campaign team which includes both members of Fianna Fáil and non-political Wexford people who believe in Michael’s passion, integrity and ability.
